“I can’t believe I missed it!”
Each month, restaurants across the metro introduce new features that are available for a limited time. Since it’s hard to get to every restaurant in the city every month, I’ve taken the liberty of collecting all the monthly features I can right here for your perusal.
Have a monthly feature I don’t know about? Send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll add them to the list.
Did you try one of the specials? Let us know what you think in the comments.
Almond Joy Pie - $4.50 per slice, $24 for a whole pie
I legit love some Almond Joy candy bars. I’m not sure exactly when this obsession began, but it was in the last few years. The layer of chocolate that gives way to a milky, chewy clump of coconut and a crunchy almond center just presses all my buttons.
The Almond Joy Pie at Pie Junkie is both better and worse than an Almond Joy. Better tasting. Worse because I can’t subtly unwrap one under the table and eat it quickly when you turn your head.
With a graham cracker base, the pie includes a layer of chocolate, then almonds, then toasted coconut that is drenched in sweetened condensed milk before it’s baked. The cashier will ask if you’d like it warmed up.
The Texan - $10
Everything is bigger in Texas, which is why I try to stay north of the Red River. This guy doesn’t need help being bigger.
The Texan burger at S&B’s is all the best things about Texas right here in Oklahoma. A giant half-pound burger patty with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions and poblano peppers and a heaping pile of American cheese. They say there’s some red pepper ranch on it, but I didn’t really taste it. It was basically just a really big, really cheesy burger with a pop of heat from the poblano pepper.
Thankfully, that’s exactly what I wanted.
Lemon Chili Mocha Latte - $5.25
A mocha latte isn’t a universally respected drink.
“You put chocolate and milk in your coffee? Would you like that in a sippy cup?”
But Clarity Coffee, as fun as the baristas are, does not take coffee lightly. So when they said March’s special coffee is a lemon chili mocha latte, I was on board.
Using aleppo peppers and lemon extract, they’ve created a drink that opens with a burst of citrus, transitioning through a smooth chocolate middle and finishes with a pop of mild peppery heat. It’s a journey from light and bright to an earthy, satisfying end.
There are more Monthly Features on the way, so keep checking back. I just wanted to get these up now so you can start tasting them before the month is up.
